| What is the difference between Celeron and Pentium? |
| Main differences are in Clock Speed, Bus Speed and
L2 Cache. The Pentium CPU has higher specs in these areas, i.e. 800MHz
system bus (Pentium) vs 400 MHz (Celeron). The Celeron was mainly
developed as a lower cost alternative. |
| What is L2 Cache? |
| L2 or Secondary Cache is memory that is located between
the CPU and main memory (RAM). It speeds up system performance because
it's faster than main memory. |
| What is a VPN? |
| Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a cost effective and
secure method for remote computers to access a private network via
the Internet. |
| What is 802.11b? |
| 802.11b is a protocol used in wireless networks. Currently
there are 3 standards in the 802.11 arena, 802.11a, 802.11b and 802.11g
(latest). 802.11b is currently the most widely used but 802.11g is
expected to replace it. 802.11g can communicate with 802.11b devices
and it has a faster data rate (54Mbps) than 802.11b (11Mbps). |

| What is a firewall and why do I need it? |
| A firewall can be a hardware device or software the
controls and prevents unauthorized access to and from a private network.
If you have a network or even a single PC that is connected to the
Internet it is highly recommended that you have a firewall implemented
to prevent hackers from accessing and misusing your systems. Click
here to download ZoneAlarm, a free personal firewall |
| What is IDS? |
| IDS stands for Intrusion Detection System. It is a
system that monitors networks and detects intrusions or attempted
intrusions. Most systems will send an administrative alert when it
detects intrusion type activity. |
| Why do I get the message "system resources dangerously
low" when opening MS Word"? |
| This occurs when the file named normal.dot is corrupt.
Use Windows find and rename all occurrences of this file found. Rename
it to something like Oldnormal.dot. (Note: Close Word and Outlook
first). You may now restart Word. FYI: The file normal.dot is the
template file used by Word to open a new document. |
| What is spyware? |
| Spyware also known as adware, is software installed
on your computer that gathers user information through your internet
connection without your knowledge. Spyware has the ability to gather
email addresses, passwords and even credit card numbers. A great tool
for checking and removing spyware is SpyBot

| Is a wireless network secure? |
| Because wireless nets use radio signals they are inherently
vulnerable to hackers. An unsecured wireless network can be compromised
by anyone with a wireless laptop, free downloadable software and some
spare time to kill. It is in your best interest to ensure that your
wireless network is secured using the latest security features. The
following security standards are available at the time of this writing:
WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) and WPA, (Wi-Fi Protected Access),
WPA is the latest protocol and highly more secure than WEP. You can
find WPA certified wireless products here
