| Due to all the security issues with Internet Explorer,
can you recommend another browser to use for web surfing? |
| Yes! Get Mozilla
Firefox! This is an awesome browser. It's faster and safer. It's
best feature is "tabbed browsing", which means you can open
as many sites as you want in one window and each site is in it's own
tab. So when you want to change sites, you merely click it's tab.
Makes surfing a lot of fun and easier! The installation will also
import all you favorites, history, cookies, Internet options and passwords
(all though the password import didn't work for me, but has worked
for others) Still well worth the change! |
| I can't close my Internet Explorer, when I click
the X nothing happens, and IE windows keep opening automatically |
| Chances are you have some adware/spyware installed.
To get rid of the adware download, update and run spybot.
If after this you still can't close I.E. then turn off 3rd party browser
extensions within IE: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced >
Enable 3rd party browser extensions. Uncheck this and reboot. |
| What should I do to secure my home Wi-Fi network. |
| 1) Change the default administration password. 2)
Change the default SSID
name. 3) Turn off SSID broadcasting. 3) Enable data encryption, either
WEP
or WPA. |

| Where can I get a free Anti-Virus? |
| Try AVG. Click
here. You have to fill out a small form but it's worth it.
This site is a trusted source so you don't have to worry about spam.
Also note that with the free version you have to manually update the
virus signature files. As long as you can remember to do that this
product is great! |
| Some of my applications that worked on Windows 95
and 98 don't work properly on XP. What can I do? |
| Try using Windows XP's program compatibility feature.
You need to know the executable file that starts the program, i.e.
for Office Word: winword.exe. Simple right click the file and click
the tab named Compatibility, then check the box "Run this program
in compatibility mode for" and select the operating system: Windows
95 , Windows 98, whichever one it was running on previously. |
| Do you know where I can get a good SPAM filter? |
| Yes, try K9. Get it here.
Or try SpamBayes
another very good anti-spam program. |
| What is an rss feed? |
| RSS is an excellent technology that allows you to monitor
and remain updated on topics of your choice. On the bottom of our
home page you'll see a
red XML button. You may have noticed red buttons like this on other
sites as well. All you need is a "browser" like program
which is called a Reader. You can then click on the XML button to
add our RSS channel to your Reader. Anytime the channel is updated
you'll be notified (you can turn this off if you prefer) by a small
balloon at the bottom of your window. Just remember to keep your Reader
running. You can add as many different channels as you like. To learn

| How do I backup my Outlook contacts, inbox, etc.? |
| All the information stored in Outlook (not Outlook
Express) is in a file that has a .pst extension. This is usually found,
for Windows 2000 and XP, in drive:\\document and settings\yourusername\local
settings\application data\microsoft\outlook\ If you can't find it,
simply use Windows Search and look for *.pst, this will find any files
with a .pst extension. This is the file you want to backup, it stores
all your Outlook data! Simply copy this file (Outlook must not be
open) to your backup location; tape, CD or another area on your network.
|
| How can I backup the Outlook pst file while I am
using Outlook? |
| Microsoft has created a tool called pfbackup.exe. You
can get it from Microsoft's web site or click
here Download and install this tool. Once it is installed
open Outlook and click on "File" > "Backup"
(this option was added when you installed pfbackup.exe) This tool
basically automates backing up the .pst file to a different file (something
backup.pst). Backup this file, even while your running Outlook,
instead of the original pst file! |
